Mission Viejo Montessori is an academic prep school for children 20 months through Elementary. We feature an excellent fine arts program in addition to our high academic standards. We use manipulative materials, have small classes and use a multicultural curriculum. During our school hours, our classrooms focus on Core Studies to develop and strengthen math, reading, and writing skills. Our Core Studies also extend to geometry, environmental studies, language arts, grammar, physical sciences, cultural and physical geography, and poetry. In addition to our highly trained Montessori teachers, we also have teaching specialists who teach music, dance, movement, drama, foreign languages, computers, physical education, and art. These classes are all included in our regular program and every child attends them. There are no extra fees to attend these classes. We also incorporate music and drama into our school curriculum through plays, puppetry and musical shows. The students also study the practical arts including gardening, woodworking, cooking and sewing.
Mission Viejo Montessori School is committed to the development of every child’s full potential. Our educational philosophy embraces a fusion of styles based on the original model developed by Maria Montessori, who believed the hand is the tool to the mind; Socrates, who encouraged interaction between teacher and student; and an environment that instills a love of active learning, and fosters academic excellence. We also have a strong Fine Arts program that provides experiences that enable students to acquire a foundation of skills for lifelong achievement. Studies have shown that the arts enhance academic learning, especially reading. For over 50 years Montessori children have learned to read quickly using hands-on phonics. Our math curriculum is outstanding and progressive. We provide children with a dynamic, challenging curriculum and end up with children who love learning, are curious and can think independently AND interdependently!
Mission Viejo Montessori School is based on profound respect for the child and built on a strong foundation of Early Childhood Education. Our child-centered, enriched learning environment encourages choice making, inspired learning, and problem solving. Individualized experiences promote the emergence of new skills and encourage socialization and independence.
Our vision is to provide a quality educational alternative for children from toddlers through elementary, in a stimulating learning environment provided by caring, enthusiastic teachers, staff and parents. The highlights of our program are the interactive relationship between teacher and child and our strong fine arts program. Our teachers are specially trained and highly dedicated individuals chosen for their loving, respectful attitudes toward children and their comprehensive knowledge of early childhood and elementary education. We also work closely with parents, as they are the first and most important educators of their child.
Our toddler program begins with children as young as two years. We recognize toddlers as individuals with unique personalities and abilities. The combination of quality care and loving attention in our prepared environment encourages the natural rhythm of learning and development. Our preschool program further enriches children’s lives by providing a multitude of specially designed, developmentally appropriate activities for students. Favorable teacher-child ratios, small groups and a variety of learning materials give children exciting opportunities for exploration, stimulating their curiosity and motivating them to learn. The preschool program also includes computer instruction, music class, dance class, art class, drama class, French class and Spanish class.
Mission Viejo Montessori School is proud to meet the many requests by parents for an early elementary program that continues through fifth grade. (We will be going to sixth soon.) Our class plan stresses the Montessori method of elementary education, high academic standards surpassing local GATE programs, and an expansive horizon of advanced studies in cultural areas such as art, music, dance, geography, and social studies. These grade levels include computer instruction, music class, dance class, art class, drama class, French class, Spanish class and physical education. With our focus on small classes and individualized attention, we are committed to the success of our students. The achievement tests scores of Montessori students usually increase the longer they attend a Montessori school. By early elementary they are a year or more above the national testing norms.
Mission Viejo Montessori School welcomes all children without regard to race, religion, color or creed. We reserve the right to explore traditional, multicultural, and religious holidays, including Christmas, Easter, powwow, Chinese New Year and Hanukkah Kwanzaa and others in story telling, songs, plays and festivals.
